Peñalba de San Esteban, is to be found at the very Eastern end of the DO Ribera del Duero, at over 900 metres above sea level. The climate is tough. Our average annual rainfall is less than 400mm. The sudden autumns soon turn to very cold winters, frost is a common visitor in spring time, but summer is hot with the occasional violent thunderstorm.

Valley extending between the towns of Atauta y Peñalba de San Esteban, and sede del Rudeles.
The vines are mostly to be found in the valley which links the two villages of Peñalba and Atauta.

Vinification
Manual harvest realised between 17 and 27 of September 2009, and all selected on the selection table.
The grapes were destemed and then pressed. Then, all the juice went for fermentation in stainless steel tank under controlled temperature of 16°. After 2 days, half of the juice went in French oak, to finish its fermentation.
Ageing
Once finished the fermentation, the wine still on its lees in barrique and tank during 5 months. Both of the wines were tasted and the best blend was done, looking for the best balance between complexity of the oak and freshness of the fruit.
Tasting notes
The wine is fine and complex, the sweet freshness of the grape variety, completed with a back palate on the tobacco and vanilla flavours, characteristics of the oak ageing.
